This week, Collabora is heading to the city of lights, Paris, to sponsor and attend the very first (and sold-out!) edition of Embedded Recipes, as well as the 6th edition of Kernel Recipes! We're very proud to be the first sponsor of Embedded Recipes, a new conference dedicated to embedded Open Source.
Collaborans, including Olivier Crête, Sjoerd Simons, and Fabien Lahoudère will also be giving talks during the week. Below are the summaries for each talk.
Some hardware devices implement the whole codec, but many recent hardwares don’t have the whole codec in hardware. So there needs to be a userspace software module to control it, possibly implement codec parsing. Many APIs exist for this such as OpenMAX IL and VA-API, but even GStreamer. We’ll analyse their pros and cons and suggest a path forward.
Wayland is a simpler and more performant replacement for X, its development started in 2008. It is now mature and can be used safely on desktop distribution such as (fedora, Debian, …). This talk will shortly present Wayland, show advantages related to X and how to use it on embedded devices.
Continous integration has gained a lot of popularity in the open source world in recent years, with the loud/web world at the forefront. The kernel world has however been somewhat slow to catch-up, especially in the embedded world, services like KernelCi and the 0-day are incredibly useful services once patches are flowing upstream but are limited in their scope. In this talk we’ll go over how CI best practices can be used when doing kernel development, and how with a little bit of infrastructure and tooling one can setup a “mini-kernelci” to run tests relevant to the current development on actual embedded hardware.
